French Bulldog Scam

October 5th, 2008 by Mr. Fanrastic

My uncle spotted this ad for a French Bulldog in the classifieds on

French Bulldog Ad

Curious, he sent them an email:

Is she still available? How old…? We currently have a 2 yr. old frenchie/pug and a 10 yr. old yellow lab. Where are you located? Thanks.

Here’s the first reply he received, supposedly from Darrell Tash:

You’re lucky to have mailed at this time because the puppy has just been placed on adoption by one of my customers, who went on a Missionary transfer with the West African Missionaries,to West Africa. He is giving the pup up for adoption for $400 because he cant take good care of the pup due to his busy and tight schedule at church and at his missionary work. All he wants is someone that’s homely and with a good christian home to adopt this young and lovely human best friend.” he will give the Puppy to you if you promise to take good care of the puppy. He needs a christian and caring home for his puppy because he really wants the puppy to go to a good home. If you are willing to take the puppy contact Rev.McBride as soon as possible at

And the second from Rev. McBride:

First of all, I must thank the living Lord that I found an intending parent for my baby, I’m giving her out for adoption. She is 12 weeks old currently. she is Akc registered with all her shots are up to date, she has no health issue. she is $400 shipping included. I got relocated to west africa recently and could not take care of the baby anymore. I want a great home for her because she is my real baby. The weather here is not conducive for her that is why I want to get her out as soon as possible and I will be very happy if you will be one to take her as your baby. I never wanted to give her out but the weather here in West Africa is not helping matter at all. If you are interested kindly get back to me with your full shipping informations such as the following:

Phone Number………..
Zip Code…………..
Nearest Airport………

So that i can forward it to my shipping agent for shipping arrangements to commence pending when payment is made.Get back to me as soon as possible.
God Bless You.

My uncle replied with the following:

Hello Rev., Thanks for replying so fast. I have a bit of a dilemma. My pastor thinks I may be making a rather harsh decision in bringing in a christian pup. You see one of our dogs is a muslim and the lab is jewish. It already makes for a noisy and rough go of things around the house the way they are always at each other. Not to mention finding kosher kibbles. He is so fussy! Do you truly feel that she would fit in? Any ideas? Despite pastors misgivings he did say he would give me his blessing and even help by way of passing the plate my way. I only need another $379.00. Wish me luck and prayers. We are expecting a big turnout Sunday. It’s our “third annual non-denominational howlin prayer meet doggy day”!

Before I decided to post this, I thought I would do some investigative reporting. So I Googled for Darrell Tash, and sure enough his name came up as a French Bulldog breeder. But that’s where the similarities ended. I discovered that he is, in fact, not located in Canada but rather in Kansas, and has a different email address than the one used in the ad above. So I contacted the real Darrell Tash to find out if that was his ad or not. Turns out he’s never heard of this ad, nor does he own the email address associated with it.
